Get to know us.

We desire to live as Jesus lives & love as Jesus loves.

We are a diverse group -- some are brand new to faith in Jesus and others have been following him for decades.  We come from all different backgrounds. We ask questions and want to be challenged and transformed.

We are radically inclusive -- that means we live out Jesus' radical love, acceptance, and grace to everyone, no questions asked.
We invite everyone to experience who Jesus is.

We gather as a family -- laughing together, crying together, building together, and serving together. We rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn. We celebrate transparency and authenticity.

If you're looking for people who offer a safe place to ask questions,  and want to love everyone as Jesus did, then come and check us out.

Our Values

At Anthem Church we have three images that signify our values as a community. They are the Towel & Basin,  the Table, and Baptism. Each value represents the followers of Jesus we want to be in this world.

Towel & Basin

The image of the towel and basin represents the servants-heart of Jesus. He humbly served the vulnerable, outcasts, and disenfranchised. We desire to love and serve our community as Jesus did.

Our Team

Here is a little info about our team. They desire to serve and love Jesus, Anthem Church and our community. We are people focused first and foremost. That means you can reach out to us, we want to get to know you.

Paul Allen Riggs

Preaching & Vision Pastor

Paul is the stereotypical pro-wrestler turned pastor. He and his wife, Wendy, are originally from California and moved to Portland in 2009 to minister and love on the community.

Together, Wendy and Paul have been involved with helping homeless youth in downtown. They have two children, Josiah and Abigail.

Paul has a bachelor's degree in religious studies and a master's degree in biblical and theological studies.

Ray Johnson

Associate Pastor

Ray was born in Sacramento, CA. Moving frequently and having a difficult childhood, Ray sought out love and acceptance through athletics and the people around him. It wasn't until a girl named Jeni brought him to youth group that Ray felt the true love and acceptance that comes from God.

Ray's prayer is that he would be used to reveal God's love to the youth at an·them Church as well as all youth throughout the entire Portland metro area.

Ray graduated from Tigard High School in 1999. He married Jeni in 2003, and they have one son, Devon.

Jeni Johnson

Jeni was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and graduated from Tigard High School.

Jeni has a love for kids and enjoys working with them. She feels drawn to children’s ministry because she loves seeing kids learn about the Lord and loves helping them learn through crafts and teaching.

Jeni met her husband, Ray, in high school, and they married in September 2007. They have one son named Devon.

Chris Olson

Communities Pastor

Chris is a transplant to Pacific Northwest. He was born in Jamaica to  missionary parents but raised in Tampa, FL. He moved to Portland Metro Area because he wanted more rain and coffee in his life.  Chris began to follow Jesus at an early age. By the time he was 19 he knew he was called to ministry.

He has a passion to connect people to Jesus and each other. When he is not working he likes to hike, paddle board, and meet new people.
